My ultimate life dream is to retire to Santorini, Greece, running a tiny little organic bakery a few days a week. The other days would be spent sipping tea before the sun rises and tending to my garden. In the meantime, here’s what’s happening in Grayslake…
Growing up in the area, I had made a promise to “one day” open here specifically because we never had a true neighborhood bakery. On May 24th, 2013, my husband, Adam, and I opened our boutique brick & mortar located at 122 Center Street in downtown Grayslake, Illinois. Cacao is my testament to what food should truly be: Real. Pure. Made from scratch. Our sweets and handmade breads are only ever made of organic and local, non-gmo ingredients, constantly sourcing for the best. Cacao is the opposite of fast food, from the way we make our treats with the passion and time the ingredients deserve to hoping you will slow down to grab a cup of coffee (served in a handmade mug) and enjoy a cookie or biscuit with us (in a vintage chair). My goal is to turn Cacao into a true community gathering place – what our town deserves and needs!
To experience the bakery at it’s best, be sure to stop in as early as possible! We bake for the day in the hopes of selling out to ensure daily freshness. The early bird catches the cake!
